RouteMate NZ

Terms of Use

Effective 11 October 2026
RouteMate NZ is a pilot digital matching platform. It is not a taxi, passenger transport operator, employer, insurer or payment provider.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use RouteMate during the pilot and must be legally able to enter into these terms.

2. What RouteMate does

RouteMate helps people discover and coordinate shared journeys. Drivers may offer spare seats and passengers may request or post wanted rides. RouteMate provides digital matching, messaging, alerts and trip-recording tools.

3. User responsibility

Drivers and passengers are responsible for deciding whether a journey is suitable and safe. Drivers are responsible for complying with all applicable laws, licensing, vehicle, insurance and road-safety obligations. Passengers are responsible for their own travel decisions.

4. Cost sharing

RouteMate does not currently collect or transfer money. Any amount shown as fuel cost, savings, contribution or costs shared is informational or manually entered by users. Users are responsible for ensuring any cost-sharing arrangement complies with applicable law and their insurance obligations.

5. Safety

Use good judgment when meeting another user. Confirm journey details before travel, meet in appropriate places, avoid sharing unnecessary sensitive information, and stop using the service or report a user if something feels unsafe. RouteMate does not independently verify a user’s identity, driving licence, insurance, vehicle, criminal history, gender or suitability unless a feature explicitly states otherwise.

6. Women-only matching

The women-only matching option relies on self-declared profile information and is a preference tool. It is not an identity-verification or safety guarantee.

7. Prohibited conduct

You must not use RouteMate for unlawful activity, harassment, fraud, threats, discrimination, impersonation, commercial transport activity that requires authorisation you do not have, or to send abusive or misleading content.

8. Cancellations and trip records

Users should cancel promptly if plans change. Once a ride is started, RouteMate may preserve the trip record rather than allowing the booking to be cancelled as if it never occurred. Recorded duration and cost-share figures depend on user actions and may not be independently verified.

9. Availability and pilot status

RouteMate is provided on a pilot basis and features may change, be interrupted or be withdrawn. We do not guarantee that a matching ride will be available, that another user will attend, or that information supplied by users is accurate.

10. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, RouteMate is not responsible for the acts or omissions of drivers or passengers, road incidents, missed journeys, losses arising from user arrangements, or information supplied by another user. Nothing in these terms excludes rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

11. Accounts

You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure and for activity on your account. You may delete your account using the in-app Profile controls or the public deletion page.

12. Privacy

Your use of RouteMate is also governed by the Privacy Policy.

13. Changes

We may update these terms as the service develops. Continued use after an updated version is published means you accept the updated terms, subject to applicable law.

14. Governing framework

These terms are intended to operate under the laws applicable in New Zealand, subject to any mandatory rights that apply to you.
